Bicentennial Park Tamworth Masterplan
Bicentennial Park is located in the beautiful country music capital of Australia, Tamworth – New South Wales.
The brief for this project was to prepare a local government park master plan to guide the future development of this very valuable and much-loved area, which is situated adjacent to the Tamworth CBD and Peel River.
It’s a very popular space and maintaining or changing infrastructure is important to those who frequent the park including:
- Local residents
- Workers from the adjacent CBD
- Travelling public members
- Tourists visiting Tamworth and surrounding districts
Community Expectations for the Park Master Plan
When working on this park master plan, the biggest key consideration was to manage community expectations regarding proposed changes to the park infrastructure.
This was done successfully through open and transparent community consultation.
Key Park Master Plan Points
The Bicentennial Park Masterplan key focal points are:
- Create a mix of active and passive recreational spaces throughout the park
- Provide outdoor performance spaces
- Provide clear and identifiable connectivity between the park and the CBD and within the park
- Provide opportunities for public art
- Provide easy and safe connectivity from the park to the river with enhanced visitor facilities at the river’s edge including a ‘beach’ experience
- Provide a schedule of works and proposed priorities and timeframes
